A virtual, inquiry-based learning environment where the teachers are professionals in their fields.

The NYLab Advantage

A National Youth Laboratory – A virtual, online laboratory that allows students, student teams, teachers, and mentors to collaborate on research or technologies that U.S. Laboratories wish to share with students and industry. There will be virtual conference rooms, classrooms, laboratories, and stores where products can be market tested.

Corporate Mentors – Corporate mentors volunteer their time to mentor students on projects that are specific to their industry. They participate in meetings, mentor students, and share scientific experience. For their participation, Corporations that participate are given the Right of First Refusal to commercialize technologies they oversee.

Science Mentors – Science mentors from NYLab's volunteer their time to mentor students on the research they are working on. They participate in meetings, mentor students, and share scientific experience.

ASETTTM - An Advanced Student Entrepreneur Technology Team centered approach to both Research & Development, and Technology Transfer. Technology Teams participate in inquiry and project based learning activities, ultimately leading to real and practical Technology Commercialization.

YRDEI – An educational program that exposes students to current research and development projects occurring at our national laboratories. Students apply for research topics, either as an individual or as part of a team, and work with a corporate and/or science mentor(s).

YETTI – An educational program that exposes students to current technologies available for licensing by our NYLabs. Students apply for a technology, as an individual or a team, and work with engineering, science, and business mentors.

Education, Enrichment, Empowerment

Goals

Students receive invaluable experience, 1) working on state-of-the-art science, 2) applying education to real-world applications, and 3) participating on business teams. Students interact with potential employers and technologies that they can build a business around.

Corporations are exposed to products they might otherwise consider too risky for commercialization, allowing them time to develop ideas using a low-cost/no-cost resource. They are also introduced to potential employees that can lead these business units into the future.

National Laboratory technologies get unprecedented exposure to businesses that would otherwise not pursue these technologies. This will increase the rate of successful transfers to the commercial sectors.
